Ich weiß nicht, wie oft ich diese beiden CDs schon gehört habe. Wer die italienischen Opernarien liebt, ist hiermit bestens bedient. Tolle Auswahl der schönsten Arien, brillant vorgetragen von den besten Sängern, technisch sehr gut gemacht und das alles für den Preis! Ich bin begeistert und kann diese CD nur weiterempfehlen.

Why Is LUCIANO PAVAROTTI worldwide famous ?
Luciano Pavarotti was the most popular artist in the history of the classical recording industry. As a member of the 'Three Tenors', the Maestro's name became a household word, and he also performed with a broad range of pop, rock and jazz artists.

LUCIANO's "Woman Magnetism"
Pavarotti, who became a senior citizen in 2000, still had a way with the younger ladies. He married his former personal secretary, who is half his age. The Maestro always had thousands of female admirers; perhaps being able to hit those high Cs with ease is some sort of primal mating call we non-operatic types are oblivious to.

LUCIANO's Success
As the best-selling opera and classical artist in the history of the music industry, Luciano Pavarotti's recordings have sold in excess of 100 million units worldwide. He's been honored with a mountain of international accolades for his music and humanitarian work. He received the Grammy for Best Classical Vocal Performance five times since 1978, in addition to that association's Living Legend Award, and has sung 373 performances at the Met since his debut there in 1968.

Some of the other numerous prizes he's been presented with throughout his career include the Commendatore Cross and Grand Official Cross for services to the Italian Republic; Officer of the Legion d'Honneur; NARAS Musicares Person of the Year; and Kammersanger (presented by the Austrian Minister of Culture). Pavarotti has also been the recipient of the annual Kennedy Center Honors Award "for the unique and extremely valuable contributions made to the cultural life of the USA."

In recognition of his effort to make the world a better place, the Maestro's been presented the esteemed Nansen Award from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees; the prize acknowledges that Pavarotti has helped raise more funds for the UN refugee agency than any other private individual. The tenor has also been appointed a UN Messenger for Peace by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Biography
Luciano Pavarotti was born in Modena, Italy, on October 12, 1935. As a young boy, soccer was his favorite pastime and he became known locally as a member of his town's team. His mother, Adele, who worked in a tobacco factory, and father, Fernando, a baker, instilled a love for music and singing in young Luciano. Fernando was himself a talented amateur tenor, and brought his son along to sing in Modena's Corale Rossi. Pavarotti's enthusiasm shifted from football to opera when the chorus took first prize in an international competition in Wales.

Despite their son's obvious enthusiasm and talent for singing, the Pavarotti parents made sure he had another career to fall back on. Pavarotti studied to become a primary school teacher and later an insurance salesman. He did well and enjoyed both of these professions, but by this point nothing could quell his burning desire to make it as a professional tenor.

Um es meinem Vorredner gleich zu tun, möchte ich diese Doppel-CD, bzw. deren Inhalt einfach nur mit "sehr gut" bewerten. Normalerweise sind Sammlungen mit Aufnahmen von unterschiedlichen Künstlern aus unterschiedlichen Jahrzenten etwas problematisch. Hier muss man den Machern aber ein sehr glückliches Händchen bei der Auswahl und der Umsetzung attestieren. Einzig die Hülle (Pappe mit Kunststoffeinsätzen) entspricht nicht dem hohen Standard ihres Inhaltes, aber darüber lässt sich gerne hinwegsehen.

Sechs Monate lang war Rolando Villazón nicht aufgetreten, er war am Ende, seelisch, körperlich, seine Stimme war erschöpft - und er es wohl noch viel mehr von der hemmungslosen Vermarktung seiner Person. Das wird so schnell nicht aufhören, denn als er unlängst in einem sogenannten "showcase" in Madrid auftrat, wurde er wie ein Held bei seiner Rückkehr gefeiert. Gleichzeitig wurde seine neue Aufnahme „Cielo e mar“ (Himmel und Meer) vorgestellt, die allerdings ein Jahr vor der Stimmkrise entstand.
Weniger Bekanntes aber nicht minder Eindringliches möchte Villazón hier präsentieren: Arien von Cilea, Donizetti, Mercadante, Ponchielli, Verdi, Boito und Pietri gehören dazu aber auch die Romanza aus "Fosca", einer Oper des brasilianischen Komponisten Antonio Carlos Gomes, der heute vergessen ist, aber seinerzeit sogar von Verdi bewundert wurde. Den Titel der Aufnahme "Cielo e mar!“ entlehnte Villazón aus der gleichnamigen Arie aus „La Gioconda“ von Amilcare Ponchielli. Es soll diese Arie gewesen sein, die den jungen Villazón in seinem Wunsch bestärkte, Sänger zu werden. Sie hat für den Sänger an ihrer Faszination wohl nichts verloren. „Sie erzählt von einem Mann, der erwartet, dass ihn die Liebe seines Lebens vom Meer aus erreichen wird, sein Engel wird von dort kommen. Am Horizont treffen sich Wellen und Himmel und in gewisser Weise möchte ich mit der CD genau das erreichen. Ich will mit Musik zur Seele durchdringen und mit der Seele der Musik etwas zurückgeben."
Ob seine eigene Seele seine Rückkehr auf die Podien unbeschadet übersteht, wünscht man ihm vom Herzen. Viele, sagt Villazón, hätten ihn vor seiner emphatisch exzessiven Art, die Dinge anzugehen, gewarnt, doch er bleibe einfach mit Leib und Seele Sänger. Und dann erzählt er die Geschichte seines Mentors Manuel Mijares, der das Bergsteigen liebte. Immer wieder hatten Menschen ihn gewarnt den Popocapetl in Mexiko, der bekannt ist für seine Gefährlichkeit, zu besteigen. „Doch er ging das Risiko ein und starb, als er etwas tat, das er liebte.
